What’s so great about Wisdom?
Proverbs 8:12-21
I. Wisdom’s
description
A. Dwells together with prudence
B. Discretion and knowledge are her
possessions
C. Detests evil, pride, arrogance,
because of the fear of the Lord
1
Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the
evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But
just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is
written: "Be holy, because I am holy." NIV
Matt
12:34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil
say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. NIV
D. Delivers counsel, sound
judgment, understanding and power
II. Wisdom’s
demonstrated value
A. Directs kings, rulers, princes, and
nobles as they rule
2 Kings 22:2 He did what was right in
the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the ways of his father David, not
turning aside to the right or to the left. NIV
Dan 5:29 Then at Belshazzar's command,
Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom. NIV
B. Distributes riches and honor
Matt 6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy,
and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up
for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and
where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where
your treasure is, there your heart will be also. NIV
1 Tim 6:18 Command them to do good, to
be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way
they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming
age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. NIV
