The Terrible Cost of Adultery

Proverbs 6:20-35

 

I. The power of God’s Word to keep us from adultery

          A. Points us in the right direction (20-23)

 

        B. Provides light as we walk (23)

 

          C. Protects us from an adulterous relationship (24)

 

II. The pitfalls of the sin of adultery

A. Price we pay for adultery is more than we can know (25-26)

 

Prov 6:26 The price of a whore is a loaf of bread, but the adulteress is hunting for a precious life. CJB

 

Prov 6:26 for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread,  but a married woman  hunts down a precious life. ESV

 

B. Punishment is inescapable when we commit adultery (27-29)

 

C. People who are hurt by adultery will never forget (30-35)

 

Deut 6:14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; 15 for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land. NIV
