Warnings Against the Wicked

Prov 6:12-19

 

Introduction:

 

2 Cor 6:15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." NIV

 

Proverbs 6:12 A worthless person, a wicked man, Walks with a perverse mouth;  NKJV

 

Proverbs 6:12 A scoundrel, a vicious man, lives by crooked speech, CJB

 

I. Damaging behavior of wicked men

        A. Destructive mouths

 

        B. Devious body language

 

Matt 23:16  "Woe to you, blind guides! You say, 'If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.' 17 You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred? 18 You also say, 'If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.' 19 You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? NIV

 

        C. Deceitful hearts that stir up dissension

 

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? NIV

 

 

Proverbs 6:14 … he is always plotting evil and sowing discord. CJB

 

 

        D. Disaster will overtake him and destroy him

 

1 Cor 11:29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. NIV

 

II. Detestable activities of the wicked the Lord hates

        B. Disclosure of what disgusts the Lord

1. Haughty eyes

                   

2.  Lying tongue

 

John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. NIV

 

3. Hands that shed innocent blood

 

4. Heart that devises wicked

 

5. Feet that are quick to rush to evil

 

6. False witness who pours our lies

 

7. Man who stirs up dissention among brothers

 

Titus 3:10 Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. 11 You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned. NIV
