What Can Take Away our Sin?
Romans 3:20-26
I. Man’s problem with sin
A.
Human performance won’t make us right with God (20)
Rom 7:7 ….I would not have known what
sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really
was if the law had not said, "Do not covet." NIV
Gal 3:24 So the
law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.
NIV
B. Mankind’s
need for righteousness is universal (23)
James
2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles
at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. NIV
II. God’s provision for man’s sin
A.
Righteousness comes from God through faith in Jesus Christ (21-22)
B.
God declares us righteous by His grace (24)
Rom
11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer by works;
if it were, grace would no longer be grace. NIV
Gal
2:21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained
through the law, Christ died for nothing!" NIV
Rom
5:6 You see, at just the right time, when we were
still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for
a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us. NIV
C. Christ was
the propitiation for sin (25a)
D.
God justifies both past and present people through Christ (25b-26)
