The Blessing of a Godly Relationship –

The Curse of an Ungodly One

Proverbs 5:15-23

I. Rejoice in the wife of your youth

A. Satisfaction of a pure relationship (15&18)

Gen 2:20 But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, 'for she was taken out of man." 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. NIV

B. Shallowness of impure relationships (16&17)

II. Resist the temptation of adultery

A. Sexual fulfillment is designed for marriage (19)

Prov 5:19 ……..Be exhilarated always with her love. NASU

Prov 5:19 …. And always be enraptured with her love. NKJV

Prov 5:19 …. always be infatuated with her love. CJB

Prov 5:19 ….be intoxicated always in her love. ESV

Prov 5:19 ….let your passion at all times be moved by her love. BBE

B. Seeking fulfillment outside marriage is unreasonable (20)

III. Remember that God sees everything you do

A. Seen by the Lord who examines our paths (21)

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. NIV

B. Sin ensnares us and holds us fast (22-23)

James 1:14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. NIV
