Have A Heart That’s Right with God

Proverbs 4:20-27

 

I. Priority of getting your heart right with God

        A. Get God’s Word into your heart

 

 

Prov 4:21 Do not let them depart from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart. NASB

 

 

Matt 12:33 "Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. NIV

 

 

        B. Guard your heart as the wellspring of life

 

Prov 4:23  Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. NKJV

 

Prov 4:23 Above everything else, guard your heart; for it is the source of life’s consequences. CJB

 

Prov 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. ESV

 

Prov 4:23 Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it. GOD'S WORD

 

 

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?  10 "I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct,

according to what his deeds deserve." NIV

 

 

Ezek 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. NIV

 

 

Col 3:1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. NIV

 

 

II. Put away the things that harm the heart

        A. Destructive mouths that harm others

Eph 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. NIV

 

 

        B. Distracted eyes that look away from God

 

 

Heb 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. NIV

 

 

1 John 2:16 For everything in the world — the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does — comes not from the Father but from the world. NIV

 

 

Gen 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.NIV

 

 

        C. Disloyal feet that leave the straight path

 

 

Prov 4:26 Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. NKJV
